Traffic, the lifeblood of a successful internet business

A question that is often asked in Swom‘s Open University is “What are the best free traffic methods?”

Traffic is the lifeblood for every successful internet business and I wouldn’t only look at free methods. But it’s possible to generate some serious traffic through free and low budget methods.

My favorite methods are:

1) Manual Traffic Exchanges; Manual Traffic Exchanges are sites where you can add your website url and in exchange for you watching other peoples sites they see your website. It’s best to promote here with a splash or squeeze page. A lot of manual traffic echanges are alpabetically ordered on TEstartpage.com;

2) Credit based Safelists; Warning: make sure to set up a special email account where you can recieve list emails. You get credited for clicking links in emails sent by others and you can use these credits to

3) Viral list builders;

4) Facebook Be creative, make a fanpage for your business. High viral effect;

5) Twitter Make a niche specific account and send out nice and product specific messages not only commercial;

Giveaways, a great list building tool

Internet giveaways are growing in popularity, even though they have been around for several years now.
The giveaway event is a list building technique that the home based business owner could consider as another tool in his or her promotional toolkit.
Newsletter publishers who wish to grow their mailing lists without the cost of advertising are now using giveaways as tools of choice because of the many benefits.

QUESTION: First of all, what is an internet giveaway?

A giveaway site is where one or more marketers are giving away reports, software, ebooks, audios, videos, graphics, website templates, memberships, teleconferences, etc… the list of what you can pick up for free is quite huge.

QUESTION: Why do marketers give their stuff away like this?
Really it’s all about LEVERAGE. One marketer joins in the giveaway so that he can leverage the combined access of all the participants. For example, if you have 500 people on your mailing list and I have 10,000 on mine, then your offer is presented to 10,000 new people. That way, you are leveraging off my much-larger list. You benefit.

But I also benefit because I potentially reach 500 new people when you send your group an invitation to visit the giveaway site… because they see my offer and may choose to download my giveaway item.

Add in the fact that dozens of marketers and publishers will usually participate together and you can see the massive marketing advantage available here.

Even the little guy gets good exposure to a huge audience of prospects. Giveaways are a great list-building tool.

QUESTION: How do giveaways help me build my mailing list?

Well, you offer your product to prospects on condition that they join your mailing list. For example, you offer a short report on keeping your garden looking nice in the off season. Then everybody who is interested in your topic will click on the link and go to your sign up page. After they subscribe and confirm their email address, you send them to download your gardening report.

The nice thing about all this is that you get a targeted subscribers. People who are interested in model airplanes won’t join your gardening list.

QUESTION: Will I find content that is relevant to my subscribers?

The true answer here is… it depends. I’ve seen all sorts of subjects being addressed. There’s a huge range of interests covered by what people are giving away at these amazing sites.

The more popular topics are covered in most of the giveaway. I mean, there is no point in offering something that nobody is interested in, right?

However, if the first giveaway you join doesn’t offer anything that would be of interest to people in your niche, join another one. You are pretty likely to find something relevant in due course.

QUESTION: Does this actually work?

Yes indeedy. One smart young internet marketer reports that 80% of his list growth is coming from participating in giveaways. Another reported that he’s making $3000 a month from promoting other people’s giveaways. So yes, giveaways do work.

QUESTION: How do I find out about giveaways when they are brand new?
On my special website dedicated to GiveAways you can find the most recent events: http://waltersgivaway.com

This is truly viral!

I recently stumbled across a fun site where I got 50 Free Internet Marketing Downloads.. You can too.. just go to http://50freeimgifts.com Some you can even give away to build your list and even sell! It’s pretty sweet, so I think you should check it out.

Welcome to my blog!

My name is Walter Mulder and I’m a 33 y/o internet marketer from the Netherlands. I live in a village close to Rotterdam. Ten years ago I started the Dutch internet portal/start page Zoek en Vind (which means Search and Find) that became pretty successful. Until recently I’ve been focused on the Dutch language market but I wish to spread my wings and hope to release international services in 2010.
I hope to keep you updated as much as I can through this blog.
